Peripheral Artery Disease: Treatment
The treatment goals of PAD are to relieve any current symptoms and slow progression of artery disease.
Treatment will depend on the severity of PAD and symptoms. PAD can often be managed with lifestyle changes to reduce factors contribuitng to artery disease. Others may need medication to help improve blood flow and decrease risk factor for blood vessel disease such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure. In severe cases, surgery may be needed.
It is likely you will have a health care team that is made up of doctors, surgeons, nurses, pharmacists, and other health professionals. It is important to maintain contact with your medical team, adhere to recommended treatment, and go to any recommended appointments.
