One Step Process for Transfers and Consultations

Effective April 7^th, 2011, one call to our new Access HealthONE call center will provide a one-step process to admit or transfer a patient and have a conversation or consultation with another clinician at any HealthONE hospital (The Medical Center of Aurora/Centennial Medical Plaza, North Suburban, P/SL, Rose, Spalding, Swedish and Sky Ridge).

The Access HealthONE call center is open 24/7/365.  Internally, inside any HealthONE hospital, including The Medical Center of Aurora and Centennial Medical Plaza, the center can be reached by calling x1111. Outside the hospital, the 1-888-RX-ONESTEP (888-796-6378) number should be used. (Please note: The x1111 works only inside the hospital).

Effective May 2^nd, 2011 the new 1-888-RX-ONESTEP number will replace our current Direct Admit number for referring physicians.

The 1-888-RX-ONESTEP can also be used to contact or consult AirLife Denver, the HealthONE emergency transport service for any patient transport needs.

The call center will be staffed by dedicated clinicians who will:

• coordinate direct admissions or transfers to and from HealthONE EDs and other departments  as well as non-HealthONE facilities, as appropriate
•  confirm there is capacity at a specific hospital and offer alternatives, if needed

• ensure the receiving ED or hospital-based physician is contacted and available by phone for acceptance and consult
•  assist with directing care to the highest level clinical team available for patients
• use consistent, structured processes to manage EMTALA

As you know, TMCA/CMP and the HealthONE system care for patients from throughout the Rocky Mountain Region. The services we provide in areas such as trauma, stroke, cardiac care, high risk obstetrics, pediatrics and emergency services are often lifesaving for patients who come to us locally, from sister hospitals and outreach locations. We believe this new service will enable us to provide an even greater level of care and access for our community.
