The 57th Annual Congress of the Association of periOperative Nurses (AORN) was held in Denver from March 13-18, 2010.  TMCA was proud to have several surgeons and nursing colleagues speaking at the event, including Jodie Taylor MD (Ribloc – Trauma Intensive), Zach Mueller RN,DNP (Nurses and Social Media), Mary Jo Steiert RN (Safe Surgery Saves Lives),  Craig Loucks MD (Total Hip Surgery), Mark Fitzgerald MD (Shoulder Injuries), Hugh McPherson MD (Spine Deformities) and Robert Greenhow MD (Total Knee Surgery).  The keynote speaker on Monday, March 15 was Atul Gawande MD who spoke on the topic of safer surgery.

TMCA’s AVP Surgical Services, Julie Martin RN, BSN, MBA, is the current president for the Denver chapter of AORN and was the National Volunteer Coordinator for the event at the Denver Convention Center.  Because of TMCA’s Magnet status and the involvement of TMCA’s surgical leadership team, we were asked to host several international guests including 50 delegates from the Chinese Nursing Association.
