Our Spine Class is required for all patients who are scheduled for major spine surgery at The Medical Center of Aurora. We have offered this unique service for more than 18 years as a way to help patients prepare for surgery, and to recover faster. We encourage family members and caretakers to attend the class with the patient.
The goal is to ensure that patients are prepared for surgery mentally, physically and emotionally. Classes are focused on lumbar spine patients and include discussions on:
- Spine anatomy
- Preoperative exercises
- Preoperative blood donations
- Pain management
- Postoperative nursing care
- Equipment needs
- Occupational/physical therapy
- Precautions and limitations after surgery
- Home safety
- Discharge needs
The Spine Class is held on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at The Medical Center of Aurora. This class is free of charge and is supported by the spine surgeons and neurosurgeons at The Medical Center of Aurora.
