A cardiolite stress test is similar to a cardiac stress test. These tests measure the heart's blood pressure and electrical activity before and after exercise (stress). In addition to electrocardiogram (EKG/ECG) readings, a nuclear stress test also takes pictures of your heart in two phases: a stress phase and a relaxation phase.
You might have small pads (ECG leads) attached to your body. The pads will help the staff monitor your heart rate. A set of pictures are taken that show the flow of blood through your heart.
Guidelines for having a cardiolite stress test include:
- Do not eat or drink for four hours before the test
- Do not eat or drink caffeine for 24 hours before the test
- Do not smoke on the day of the test
- Do wear comfortable clothes for the test
- Ask your health care provider if you should take your blood pressure medications
A cardiolite stress tests usually takes 2 to 4 hours.
