Colon & Rectal Cancer

The colon (the longest part of the large intestine) and the rectum are important organs of the digestive system. This system is also called the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and it helps the body process food, create energy and manage solid waste. When abnormal cells develop in this area and grow out of control, cancer develops.

At The Medical Center of Aurora, we work to diagnose and treat colon and rectal cancer, as well as to help prevent them through screening. Fortunately, the colonoscopy is an effective tool for diagnosing colon and rectal cancer. And, when found early, this cancer can be prevented.
