The Medical Center of Aurora Offers Robotic Surgery

July 21, 2008

In its ongoing effort to provide the most advanced treatment options for our patients, The Medical Center of Aurora (TMCA) now offers robotic surgery. TMCA is the only hospital in the eastern Denver metro area to use robotics to perform a variety of minimally invasive surgeries for the prostate, kidneys, uterus/cervix and heart.

"Robotics has revolutionized surgery and offers patients what may be the most effective, least invasive surgical treatment option currently available," said Julie Martin, assistant vice president of surgery for The Medical Center of Aurora and Centennial Medical Plaza. "It was important to us to offer our patients this treatment option to ensure they have access to this proven technology."

Patients who undergo robotic-assisted surgery receive significant benefits, including:

  • less postoperative pain
  • shorter hospital stays
  • less risk of infection and complications
  • less blood loss and transfusions
  • shorter recovery time

The Medical Center of Aurora is using the da Vinci® Surgical System.
