October 28, 2008

The Medical Center of Aurora and Centennial Medical Plaza have just been ranked as the 95th best place to work in the United States by Modern Healthcare, an industry publication that is rated number one in readership among healthcare executives nationwide.

"Achieving high levels of employee satisfaction is as important to us as maintaining the highest possible quality of medical care," said John Hill, CEO for The Medical Center of Aurora and Centennial Medical Plaza. "Our core values center around flexibility, positive work environments and growth opportunities that enable employees in all areas to achieve their goals."

This is the first time Modern Healthcare has rated health care organizations. To be considered for the publication's Top 100 listing, the health care organizations had to demonstrate performance and achievements in several key practice areas, including:

  • Communications tools and practices
  • Recognition
  • Job advancement/development
  • Leadership development
  • Family friendly benefits
  • Healthy work/Life balance

In addition, employees completed in-depth, confidential surveys about their workplaces.

"From orientation on, we focus on teamwork and being a world-class organization," said Kathy Yeager, vice president of Human Resources at The Medical Center of Aurora. "Our CEO gives clear direction regarding our mission, vision, values and five key indicators: Patient Loyalty, Employee Pride, Physician Engagement, Financial Commitments and Community Involvement. We continue to invest in our staff and build engagement so that we have the highest level of care for every patient."

This honor comes on the heels of The Medical Center of Aurora and Centennial Medical Plaza earning the coveted Magnet Recognition honor, the highest honor a hospital can earn in nursing excellence nationwide, awarded by the American Nursing Credentialing Center, a division of the American Nursing Association. Other awards recently achieved by The Medical Center of Aurora include the 2008 and 2007 Alfred P. Sloan award for workplace flexibility, Colorado Performance Excellence award, and ranking as the number one place to work in Colorado for 2007 by ColoradoBiz magazine.
